There is a 4-week Absolute Beginners
Salsa course led by Marcus & Bonita
on
the first Tuesday of each month. The next
course will run on Tuesday, 5th August 2008 and run for
the duration of 4 or 5 weeks, after which time, students can progress
into the Recent Beginners class held at the same time with another teacher,
on a drop-in basis. If you have missed this course and want to be reminded
for the next one nearer the time, please
and mention 'Salsa at Ford'. Our courses start on the first Tuesday
of every month except December ie: 2008:
5th Aug, 2nd Sept, 7th Oct, 4th November
No
need to book or bring a partner, just smooth-soled shoes ...
and some comfortable clothing!
8-9.30pm Absolute Beginners monthly
course with Isobel
8-9.30pm Improvers with Debbie
8-9.30pm Intermediates with Marcus
9.30-11pm Freestyle / practice dancing
After
the class finishes at 9.30pm, the music continues, the lights go down
and you start dancing with everyone else until 11pm. If there are things
you want to clarify, then the teachers will be on hand to go over details
during this time while they are dancing with you.
Partners are very welcome, but not obligatory.
You can just turn up on your own or with friends and we'll rotate the
partners for you. The course will build each week and designed for Absolute
Beginners with no prior knowledge of Salsa (we also have a cure for the
"2 left feet syndrome"!)
Entrance is £6 on the door (on a
pay as you go basis) and includes classes and dancing until 11pm. If you
are already a Salsero, dancing after 9.30pm is FREE!
Car parking is available opposite the Ford
(transit van) site. When you walk out of the car park turn right into
Wide Lane, and pass Gate 3 , after which you will see the signs for Salsa.
Turn left down the path, enter the social club and we are on the first
floor.
DIRECTIONS:
From Portsmouth - Exit M27 at Junction 5 - keep to right on slip-road..
Take fourth exit from the m’way roundabout (A335) signed Southampton
Airport, then second exit at roundabout over rail bridge.. . then third
exit at mini roundabout by airport and pass under the motorway towards
Swaythling. Pass number 1 Gate on your left and the Ford car park entrance
is further along on the right. Park here and when you walk out of the
car park turn right into Wide Lane, and pass Gate 3, after which you will
see the signs for Salsa. Turn left down the path, enter the social club
and we are on the first floor
From
Bournemouth - Exit M27 at J5, take the 2nd exit from the m'way
roundabout (A335) signed Southampton Airport, at the next roundabout take
the 2nd exit, drive over the railway bridge, at the next roundabout, take
the third exit, pass under the motorway towards Swaythling. Pass number

M3: At the end of the M3 (after J13) the m'way splits into the
M27 East and West. Take the M27 East to Portsmouth, & Southampton
Airport, & exit soon after at J5. Take the second exit (A335) off
M’way roundabout.. & second exit at roundabout over rail bridge..
then third exit at mini roundabout by airport and pass under the motorway.
Pass number 1 Gate on your left and the Ford car park entrance is further
along on the right. Park here and when you walk out of the car park, turn

From
Town: Drive along Thomas Lewis Way and at the end turn right
into Stoneham Way towards the M27. At the next set of lights, filter right,
turning right into Wide lane under the railway bridge. At the roundabout,
take the first exit left and continue along Wide Lane. The Ford Plant
is on your right and their car park entrance is on the left (watch for
the signs). Park here and when you walk out of the car park, turn right
into Wide Lane, and pass Gate 3, after which you will see the signs for
Salsa. Turn left down the path, enter the social club and we are on the
first floor

This is our largest Salsa evening with nearly 100 people attending each
week! The format is:
7.45-9.30pm - We have 4 teachers giving 4 Salsa classes for all
levels each week:
Absolute Beginners - Level 1 - (we assume you know nothing! :-)
Recent Beginners - Level 2 - (a few weeks)
Improvers - Level 3 - (a few months)
Intermediates - Level 4 - (a few more months and years!)
9.30-11pm Freestyle/practice with everyone dancing together
(& the lights are down!)
There
is an Absolute Beginners class every week of the year (except at Xmas).
So it doesn't matter which Weds you arrive as the classes are structured
on a 'drop-in' basis, with no need to book
Entrance £6 on the door, includes classes & dancing until 11pm.
After the class finishes at 9.30pm, the music continues, the lights go
down and you start dancing with everyone else until 11pm (or as long as
you want!). If there are things you want to clarify, then the teachers
will be on hand to go over details during this time.

there is a no-smoking policy in or on the school grounds
There is a soft drinks machine available or you can bring your own.

Exit on junction 7 to Hedge End & Southampton
At the top of the slip road, take the exit of the roundabout towards Southampton
At the next roundabout, take the 4th exit towards Harefield
Take the second turning on the left into Cheriton Road
Take the first right after the pub into Minstead Avenue
Turn left into the school grounds
Park at the lower end of the car park and enter the school via Reception

4 concurrent levels each week in 3 halls from 8-9.30pm:
Absolute
Beginners Salsa (we assume you know nothing! :-)
Recent Beginners Salsa (a few weeks)
Improvers (a few months)
Intermediates Salsa (a few more months and years!)

and we'll do the rest for you.
Or if you want to come out dancing after 9.30pm entrance is only £3

Before you reach a set of pedestrian lights (by the Cowherds pub on your
right) turn right into Northlands Avenue
Continue along this road and over the mini roundabouts
At the end turn left into Archers Road
The Archers Road Club is set back on the right hand side after the pedestrian

Directions to ARCHERS ROAD CLUB from the West - Bournemouth &
M271:
Continue
along the A3024 Millbrook Road and after a major junction, take a right
turn towards Shirley into Paynes Road
At the lights, continue straight over into Howard Road
At the lights, continue straight over (over Hill Lane) and into Archers
Road
The Archers Road Club is set back on the right hand side after the pedestrian
lights
Directions to ARCHERS ROAD from Portsmouth and Bournemouth:
Take J5 off the M27 and at the roundabout under the motorway
take the exit to Southampton
At the next set of lights filter right into Basset Green Road
Proceed all the way to the top (about 2 miles)
At the roundabout take the first exit left into the Avenue

Hedge End Youth Club (HEYCA), St Johns Road, Hedge End
Beginners 1-2.30pm (you must already know basic salsa) & Improvers/Intermediates
2.45-4.30pm. Cost £3 each class or £5 both
The Beginners class is suitable for Salsa dancers with a minimum of 8
weeks dancing experience.
Improvers must know Abajo, Arriba, Dame dos, Enchufle doble, Vacilila
and others
Rueda is
a circular Cuban Salsa dance where a leader calls moves in quick succession
and everyone follows. It's exciting and sometimes chaotic, but above all
it's fun.
